Terrible RPG Story

Galabrax von Jotunheim was the most noble, bravest and most famous of knights in the land of Iglon. He defeated the biggest of beasts, conquered barbarian tribes and even defeated the vilest of Evil Mages, Gorgacolon. Galabrax was rewarded with riches, titles and lands beyond his wildest of dreams and was even made the Imperial Chancellor of High Voya, the Patron Goddess of Iglon.

In his early days, Galabrax was Squire to the Knight-Guardian Dragokaz, who, during his time was renowned for defeating the last of the Drakons, the Great Kalatyptoeoris. Dragokaz, already older than the other knights, retired and Galabrax took up his mantle, however, his first few years as a Knight-Guardian were extremely difficult. Galabrax was defeated many times, but his enemies thought him so pathetic a knight that they refused to deal the final deathblow. Instead they let him live to wallow in his failure and to demoralize him even further.

However, this had the opposite effect on Galabrax, instead of putting him into a state of depression, it made it work even harder to be stronger, faster and smarter. He vowed that he would become the greatest Knight-Guardian ever and it seemed as the next few years passed, he would indeed achieve that goal. Galabrax first heroic deed, and the one that cemented him in history as a great Knight-Guardian, was to face down the most fearsome of beasts, the Catatork, which is a mutated amalgamation of giant cat and stork.

These beasts were well known for swooping down and plucking the citizens of Iglon up off the street and shredding them to pieces. One entire city, Hamdown, was evacuated due to the massive amount of citizens being eaten on a daily basis. The citizens, at the time, did not know there was a giant nest of Catatork nearby and they were just supplying the beasts with easy prey. Upon hearing of this, Galabrax set out to rid the town and the land of the Catatork. At first, he couldn’t figure out exactly how to draw out the beast as the majority of them were resting well with a full belly of people meat. He tried many different tactics, including a few that shall not be mentioned due to the harm it may or may not have caused nearby animals. Another rather inhumane method included tying several minions of a nearby Evil Mage to a tree and bleeding them, but since they were Evil, we can overlook that bit for now.

Now back to our story.

Galabrax managed to trap several of the Catatork younglings with a giant net that was fashioned from the roots of the Stickitacki Tree. While these younglings were screaming for help and the majority of the Catatork adults were attempting to free them, Galabrax stealthily sneaked his way into the nest, fought and killed the Matriarch. This resulted in the remaining Catatork to flee to other lands and areas of Iglon, effectively free the town of Hamdown and earning Galabrax the fame and fortune he had been searching for.

With this heroic deed completed, Galabrax continued his search for more deed to build his fame and amass the riches that only the most renowned Knight-Guardian could obtain. This search took him all across Iglon and even to lands beyond; he amassed a Drakon’s hoard worth of riches and gained several of his own Estates and Keeps. Even this was not enough for our hero, he wanted more; he was looking for the Grand Quest; the one to permanently mark his name in the history books of Iglon.

This is where the Evil Mage Gorgacolon comes into our story and when some of the most vile, heinous acts of magick ever seen in Iglon are committed.

In Iglon, magick is well used and the populace views it as a normal part of life, however, none have seen it used in the manner in which Gorgacolon began to use it. In the beginning Gorgacolon was not very adept with magick and even had a hard time casting the most basic of spells. He studied harder than any other Novice and as the years went by, he began to master one school after another and eventually became the most powerful Mage in Iglon. However, this was not enough for Gorgacolon, he craved more and more power and soon enough, he began searching for the forbidden magicks, those of Death and Destruction. He was almost immediately corrupted by the power they provided and soon began using the power for deeds that left the populace and his former teachers extremely scared and concerned.

Gorgacolon began using the power more and more and the land itself became corrupted in the places he used the magick the most. The very land of Iglon was dying; the power of Death and Destruction, taking more and more from the land each time it was used. At the same, Gorgacolon was becoming stronger and stronger, with no one able to slow or stop his consistent march toward greater power, he soon began to formulate a plan to rule Iglon and kill the Emperor of Iglon.

Gorgacolon began amassing an army of mercenaries, cutthroats, bandits and all manner of wild, evil beasts. He used this army to take the Hold of Goldie, a giant keep located in the Central Territory that was under the rule of Goldie el Hammershine, a rather rich, dwarf that made his fortune from the vast amount of Gold Mines in the Central Territory. With all the gold under his control and his vast army, Gorgacolon began making strategic incursions into the Western and Eastern Territories at the same time. This prevented the Northern Territory from being able to properly reinforce the East or West and, with the Southern Territory in turmoil with the Beast Clan War; no help would be afforded from them either.

Gorgacolon had figured out the exact moment to strike and it seemed that no one would be able to stop his relentless march toward total conquest of Iglon. It was indeed the darkest of eras for the people of Iglon as many of them were enslaved to work in various mines and farms to feed the ever-growing Army of Gorgacolon. The people of Iglon needed a real hero, someone to put down Gorgacolon and end his reign of terror.

In another part of Iglon, among the beast clans of the South Territory, Galabrax was making an even bigger name for himself. He had managed to broker a treaty between Clan Bovine and Clan Goate, which prevented a way that would have encompassed the entire South Territory and sent Iglon into turmoil. Galabrax was hailed as both a hero to the many races of Iglon, but also as a symbol of hope in a seemingly darkening era of Iglon’s history.

News of Gorgacolon deeds began to reach Galabrax as well and he knew that someday, he would have to face this Evil Mage. Galabrax began to prepare himself to face magick more powerful than anything he faced before. He studied and practiced facing magick with every Mage he could find, improving his resistance to any magick that could prevent his ability to move, fight and defeat a Mage of any caliber. However, nothing could prepare him for the true power that Gorgacolon held and this would nearly be his downfall.

The first confrontation between Galabrax and Gorgacolon, left them both nearly dead and their armies in ruins; even the land itself was permanently scorched where the two of them met on the battlefield. Nothing would ever grow in that area again, but the power that Gorgacolon held was depleted and his reign of terror was stopped for the time being. Galabrax was saved by his generals and returned to the Palace of Iglon where he was healed by all the healers that could be found. Gorgacolon disappeared and was believed to have died, but instead he had gone into hiding; waiting and gathering what power he had left to make a final attempt to kill Galabrax and the Emperor of Iglon.

When Gorgacolon came out of hiding a year later, Galabrax was ready and easily defeated the Evil Mage before he could wreak any more havoc on the land of Iglon. Galabrax had been infused with a gift from High Voya, the power to deflect and return to the caster any magickal spells, no matter how powerful. Gorgacolon did not anticipate the intervention of a divine being and was easily overwhelmed by the power of High Voya. That sent him and his power of Death and Destruction spiraling out of control and into a completely dormant state, where he was finally captured and locked in the deepest and darkest dungeon in Iglon.

Iglon and its people were saved; Galabrax had obtained his ultimate goal and was the most famous and notable of the Knight-Guardians. For years, Galabrax enjoyed his fame and was showered with more riches than he thought he could ever spend, but eventually the years would take their toll. Galabrax got older and like his predecessor, he was soon forgotten to history; this weighed heavily upon him and eventually tore down the person that he had become.

Our hero, Galabrax is now just a town drunk, he sold his armor, used all his riches on winches, ale and gambling with the town mage for items that were not so magickal. The townsfolk that once praised him have forgotten who he was and now just laugh and make fun of him. He’s become a joke to the citizens of Iglon and to himself, it seems that even High Voya has forgotten him. He wanders from town to town seeking nothing, but ale and a place to sleep. Most of the time, a few patron either recognize him or just plain feel sorry for him and buy him several rounds of drinks, then he sleeps it off in either the nearest pig stall or hay loft. The few people that recognize and realize who Galabrax truly is are shocked and deeply saddened at how far the greatest of Iglon’s heroes has fallen.

As Galabrax was lost in his own self-pity, an old nemesis was gaining power once again. The Evil Mage Gorgacolon was secretly building up his power of the last few decades, only using his magick when it was needed and never where anyone could see or detect it. As the years passed, he became stronger and stronger until finally, he had amassed enough power and a large enough army to begin taking his vengeance on Iglon and its citizens.

Gorgacolon started by ordering his commanders to attack some of the smaller outlying towns and villages to test the strength of the army as well as testing the current defenses of Iglon. The resulting raids left countless citizens dead and most of the villages razed to the ground. The current Emperor of Iglon was slow to respond as he felt it was beneath him to care about the people of the smaller village. His concern was more for his own metropolis rather than the rest of Iglon; his fear was that Gorgacolon would soon assassinate him like the attempts on his grandfather. It was very clear that Gorgacolon had to be stopped, but every Knight-Guardian that was sent against him, either joined his army as a slave to the magick or was killed with the body sent back in pieces. Galabrax did not care, nor did he even attempt to care. Instead he just kept drinking until he blacked out and continued this for several more years.

Things would soon change, Galabrax could not avoid his old nemesis for much longer and as Galabrax enters the Township of Downsbar, he would find himself thrown into the midst of the newest conflict with Gorgacolon’s minions. This is where our hero’s new story starts. Can he once again become the Knight-Guardian that the Land of Iglon needs? Will he answer High Voya’s call or will he continue the remainder of his life as a drunken fool? Well, I guess ultimately that rests in your hands now.
